 SHOP

Hangin' with Tommy

It's Friday, and you know what that means: after-work happy hour.

Although I tend to “shop” around for the best deal possible, I don’t think talking about my go-to HH spots is retail worthy for Daily Shop... Unless we’re talking about Tommy Bahama, which just so happens to be the best of both worlds: a restaurant with great happy hour specials and a shop with cool coastal wear.

True, the clothing boutique is a short walk from the restaurant, but trust me on this: bathing suit shopping is a whole lot less painful after a cocktail, and the mixologists at Tommy Bahama make a mean mojito. It doesn’t hurt that many of the swimsuits at Tommy Bahama have special slimming qualities such as control panels and shirring in all the right places.

Recent new arrivals for women include flirty, wrinkle-resistant dresses with tropical patterns and comfy, loose-knit linen and cotton sweaters. The guys can choose from a bevy of new camp shirt designs that they may recognize from episodes of of Modern Family.

A cheap cocktail and a cute new dress; I can't think of a better way to start the weekend.

Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, 300 John Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, 941-388-2888; Tommy Bahama Retail Shop, 371 St. Armands Cir., Sarasota, 941-388-2446

Iconic pop singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka provides all the tunes for this sweet, contemporary musical. Written in 2005, the ‘60s setting and beloved classic hits such as “Where the Boys Are” and “Stupid Cupid” lend the production a warm sense of nostalgia. The show’s run has now extended to Feb. 26.
